Q + A with Lauren Woods, Interior Decorator, Wellwood Design

Meeting at a mutual friends New Year’s party, we immediately had a connection and laughed over kids, food, our childhood and how we met our partners. Also living with her family and cat Jack in Mimico we learned Lauren has her own interior design company focusing on residential projects. Crisp, clean, modern aesthetic is how we would describe Wellwood’s style. Lauren shares a little about her business and living in our community.
Q. You are one half of Wellwood Design, with your Partner Jen Wellman. How did you two become Partners and come to work together?
A. Jen was actually a friend of my sisters, and she had just started her own Interior Design business. I worked for her part time while I finished school, then went on to work for a larger firm for a few years before ultimately reconnecting with Jen, and the rest is history!
Q. How long has your business been established?
A. Jen and I have worked together for about 9 years, but “Wellwood Design” was established about 2 years ago when we formed a formal partnership.
Q. What is your signature look? Do you have one?
A. Transitional, Warm, Clean and slightly eclectic!  We like to create spaces that are as functional as they are beautiful.
Q. What has been your favourite project to date?
A. We actually recently worked on a large condo that I fell in love with! Typically we work on single freehold homes where we can get away with moving walls, plumbing, etc., but this condo added a whole host of design challenges such as a bunch of massive concrete load bearing walls. The somewhat permanent location of some elements pushed us to really consider each and every corner of the space. The final product was a clean, modern space that flowed beautifully!
Q. What are the latest trends?
A. Natural, artisan elements like handmade tiles, warm leather and untreated brass are really big right now. Warm tones like Beige, clay, stone and earthy greens have also made a huge comeback!
Q. How can potential Clients contact you for their Interior Design needs?
A. Clients can email me at [email protected] for inquiries. They can also follow us on Instagram at @wellwood_design to see our projects.
Q. You live in Mimico with your Family, what do you love about this Community?
A. We love the quaint feeling of Mimico! It has a friendly small town feeing, yet it is a mere 15 minute go train ride to the heart of Toronto. There are so many young families in our area too!
Q. What do you like to do on your days off?
A. I love running down by the water or going for walks with my family to the Humber Bay Farmers market!
Q.   What are your favourite local spots (restaurants, take-out, parks etc…)
A. We love Tich Indian Cuisine, Nimman Thai, and Revolver Pizza Co.  We also enjoy the amazing coffee and breakfast cookies at Birds and Beans!  Queens Pasta is another local favorite of ours: they make incredible homemade ravioli!
Thanks for taking the time to chat with us Lauren! Your style is absolutely beautiful! For anyone looking for Interior Design needs in the GTA, you can contact Lauren at [email protected] or on Instagram @wellwood_design.
