Q. Hi Camille, can you tell us a little about yourself?

A. I am originally from Montreal. We moved to Toronto in 2014 after living in Europe for many years. I am a lawyer by trade, a wife to the most supportive and loving husband in the world (I know corny but super true), and a mom of two wonderful kids. After settling in Toronto, I decided to study for my MBA and graduated from the Cornell University and Queen’s University Americas program in May 2021. During my MBA  studies I discovered entrepreneurship – a path I never dreamed of undertaking while practising law.

Q. How did you come up with the idea for this business?

A. For years, I was searching for an online marketplace where I can support BIPOC-owned businesses dedicated to natural and non-toxic  haircare and skincare products that are made with people like me mind. It is really hard to find these products all in one place and a luxury to find in different countries. We started doing research and realized there are great BIPOC-owned small businesses out there making the most amazing high-quality, natural, organic, vegan, non-toxic beauty products all over the world. So we decided to curate our own marketplace for these businesses who are just as dedicated to non-toxic and natural haircare and skincare as we are.

Q. What separates you from the competition?

A. We are a fast-growing global one-stop shop supporting BIPOC -owned small businesses in any country. Our marketplace focuses on offering natural and clean haircare and skincare products for men, women , babies and children made with BIPOC in mind. We connect BIPOC-owned small businesses from anywhere to buyers anywhere.

Q. What products do you offer?  How do people purchase your products?

A. We offer a wide range of natural and clean (non-toxic) haircare and skincare products as well as accessories handcrafted by BIPOC-owned small businesses from different countries and we are growing.

Q. Do you have plans to open a Brick-and-Mortar shop?

A. Not at the moment. We launched in November, 2020 and as we continue to scale, brick and mortar is definitely an opportunity we look forward to venture into.

Q. What are your most popular items that you sell?

A. Our most popular items at the moment are Real Naturelle’s Hair Oil, the 100% Prickly Pear Cactus Seed Oil and Raw Shea Butter from Yokoumi, and Ivy Wild’s Edge Control, Frize Frize’s Feeling Lush Hair Cream and She A Queen Naturals’ Extra Strong * Handcrafted Ayurvedic Hair Oil Infused with Fenugreek Seeds, to name just a few.

Q. Can you customize the order? Where do you deliver?

A. Only certain items are customizable such as Klawz by Keelah’s Press-on Nails and many items offer different scents and sizes. We deliver world-wide!

Q. Do you have a team of people helping you?

A. We are supported by a web development and marketing team whom are helping us to improve the business day by day.

Q. When you are not creating what do you like to do?

A. I enjoy spending time with my family and friends, cycling, exercising and when permitted again, travelling.

Q. What book are you reading right now?

A. In my mission to find natural ways to worry less about things, I am reading Mark Hanson’s – The Subtle Art of Not Giving a ****. Insightful stuff.
