Q + A with Lisa Rosen, Artist, Roving Arts

Q. Where does the name Roving Arts come from?

A. Roving is the name of the type of wool used for felting. It also means ‘to wander without purpose’, which is a concept I love. Spending a day wandering without purpose through a forest is my perfect day.

Q. When and what inspired you to start a business like this and specifically, working with felt?

A. I left my teaching job after having kids to stay home with them. Since my youngest started school I have had a few part-time jobs, but nothing I felt particularly passionate about. I have always loved being creative and had taken a felting workshop a few years back. I’d been meaning to use my extra wool roving for ages and when I started seeing felt ball garlands around I thought I’d try making some felt balls myself. After making a few pieces of art with them, I figured I try my hand at a small online business. That was about 4 months ago and here I am. It’s been really fun so far!

Q. Where can people purchase your art?

A. I have an Etsy shop which can be found at www.etsy.com/shop/rovingarts or just search for Roving Arts. My work can also be seen on Instagram (@rovingarts) and I will announce any upcoming markets there. I am happy to do custom work and can be reached through Etsy or Instagram.

Q. How long have you lived in Mimico?

A. I’ve lived here 4.5 years and I’m so happy we ended up here!

Q.  What’s your favorite thing about living there?

A. I can’t pick only one so firstly, I love being by the lake and, secondly, the people here are so friendly and down to earth. To me it feels like living in a small town in the big city.
